Sheffield’s Eccentronic Research Council and Maxine Peake have announced that they will be performing their ace album-length ‘song poem’ The 1612 Underture at the Harris Library in Preston next Sunday, December 16.
The trio will be joined by fellow Sheffielders Lucy Hope and Lucy Cunsolo of the Chanteuse and Crippled Claw to perform the album, with support from goth-folk duo Paper Dollhouse and singer-songwriter Emma Tricca.
Performances of the piece so far have been nothing short of all-enveloping; Christophe Riesco saw them for us back in August and had this to say: "The spoken vocals allow the effect of the performance to be discursive, to move from idea to idea… This is not relaxing music. This is Pop in the sense that it plays with free sounds, exploring tonalities and not restricted to the set forms (and set signifiers) of conventional music."
