Avant garde San Franciscan rockers Oxbow are reining in their abrasiveness for one night and one night only (ahem, as well as their shows at Supersonic, Paris and Brussels) in a special performance at the Union Chapel, London on October 22. The Oxbow Orchestra will have the band’s Niko Wenner and Eugene S. Robinson performing songs from their catalogue with string, woodwind and brass sections and operatic backing vocals.
Drone doom tuba band (perhaps the greatest possible grouping of four words) Ore, comprising tuba players Stuart Estell and Sam Underwood, are supporting and playing in the orchestra.
The event comes ahead of Oxbow’s new album, their ninth, Thin Black Duke, set for release next year.
We’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to the gig. To be in with a chance of winning, just e-mail your answer to following question to comps@thequietus.com, with OXBOW in the subject line, by midday Monday October 15. To read the Quietus Competition terms & conditions, click here.
