On October 6th, Local Authority are set to host a mighty looking night at London’s Rhythm Factory, all hinged around an exhibition of art by Zeke Clough, primarily known for his intricate and violent artwork for Shackleton and The Bug’s new Acid Ragga series (see picture above). Following the exhibition will be an evening of music – including many Quietus favourites – that taps into a similarly dark and exploratory space.
The idea behind the whole event is to "look at the influence of industrial and noise music on Techno, which in our view, currently owes more to both genres then it does to the halycon days of house or Detroit," say the organisers. "Each artist has been carefully picked to offer their own voice within the narrative."
So heading up the bill are Adam X and Skirt, both of whom work a charcoal-black strain of industrial techno that’s as rooted in a British musical lineage as European or Stateside. Further down are three representatives of the Mordant Music label – Mordant Music themselves, alongside Vindicatrix and the analogue dub vibrations of Ekoplekz. PAN label head Bill Kouligas, who has been responsible for releasing a series of vital techno/noise/ambient records as of late, will be playing, as will Powell, whose recently minted label Diagonal has released a couple of great 12"s of post-punk/noise indebted techno and electronics.
The evening starts at 7pm with the opening of Clough’s exhibition. It’s free to attend if you email info@rhythmfactory.co.uk beforehand with the subject line ‘Zeke Clough’, and the names of people attending.
The musical segment of the night starts at 9pm and isn’t free – tickets are priced at £8-10 and available here in advance.
