New Neil Young Album Due In October

Psychedelic Pill to feature all-new material with Crazy Horse

Neil Young has announced his second album of the year, reports the NME.

Psychedelic Pill is due on October 29 via on double CD and triple vinyl (the first track is apparently 28 minutes long, characteristic of the normally understated and restrained Mr Young). It was reportedly recorded straight after the sessions for the covers album Americana, released in June, and is his first album of new material with the full Crazy Horse line-up of Ralph Moline, Frank Sampedro and Billy Talbot since 2003’s Greendale.

Talking to Rolling Stone, guitarist Frank Sampedro said: "It’s us jamming and having lots of fun. I think that [former Crazy Horse producer] David Briggs would be proud of it… Once he was gone, I felt like we lost our compass a bit. We had the sound and we had the big machine, and we could play anything and play pretty good, but we weren’t putting any great records together. I mean, Broken Arrow was OK. It wasn’t like Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere or Rust Never Sleeps or Ragged Glory."
