Kraftwerk – Autobahn

Again, it comes from a love of 45 inch singles. I spoke to my best mate Mark Brady the other night, and I mentioned I was doing this. I said I was going to choose 'Autobahn' because he had it as a single. We used to put on 45s in his living room and pretend to play guitars or drums or in this case keyboards. Back in 74, we also loved 'What's Your Name' by Chicory Tip. ‘Son Of My Father’, an early Giogio Moroder production, also stood the test of time as one of the biggest football terrace anthems.

Then of course you listen to the album and then it just stays with you. You hear Radioactivity and Trans-Europe Express and everything's changed. It's such a beautiful thing, isn't it? They're celebrating the autobahn, the positive thing about their country. It's really fascinating. Kraftwerk were just there forever from that point onwards. There was one time that we drove across Arizona and we put on Trans-Europe Express, and we quite liked the contrast.
