Leonard Cohen – The Songs Of Leonard Cohen
I had to wait quite some time during my career to get to talk to him because he was somebody that journalists loved to talk to, you know? I'd actually spoken to him on the phone a couple of times, once when he was up in the monastery – I think he'd actually gone down the hill to do the call. But the big interview that I did with him for Mojo magazine was in 2001. I was still living in London and we spoke for three days – and no nights, I might add. I really did think at the end of it, you know, I've got it. I've nailed it. Now of course I didn't, he’s such a charmer. He's such a debater, almost like a politician or a poet, as I described him in the book. He chooses his words so carefully either to show what’s in his heart or more often to mask and hide what the true meaning is.
