Aphex Twin - Syro
I was such of big fan of Richard D James and his projects when I was at high school, and all the names he went under, and I was a total collector of all of it. I really tried to track down every single thing I could and there was so much. Then, as we know, he disappeared for 16 long years which was a real bummer. It was so magical when Syro came out because I think it’s one of the best things he’s ever made. It really distils his sound into this very energised and listenable – some of it is quite aggressive, and a lot of people might have a hard time listening to it – but most of Syro has a real fun vibe to it. For some reason with Syro I always associate it with a heist. It sounds like a heist is going on in some Atari system and it just makes my imagination go wild. Syro is also one of my favourite albums for… if you’ve taken bad drugs and it’s four in the morning and you’re not going to be able to sleep just put Syro on. It’s my go-to record for being a little bit like… (laughs). Anyway.
