Having continued to make waves in London's jazz scene for the better part of this decade, Melt Yourself Down stepped out with their first new music since 2016 earlier this summer in the form of 'Boot and Spleen'.

The track itself was inspired by the dark history of British colonialism in India and considers the concept of British identity in 2019. Speaking about the video, the group's Kush, who wrote the track, says it's comprised of a "series of impressions, glimpses and moments of very different people's lives," adding that "they are all seeking to define their identity and space in our fractured society.

"The common story here is that of a feeling of inner claustrophobia and anguish which is brought to light by not being able to satisfy their very natural desire and need to belong. These characters are consciously or unconsciously trying to shield their own spleen from the murderous societal 'Boot'. They are fragile, sensitive and highly reactive, they are on edge as if programmed to only understand a survival mode of existence.

"Having been pushed into an ultra-individualist and consumerist life since birth, they are really struggling to go back the other way and reconnect with their own humanity."

'Boot and Spleen' is the first track from a forthcoming project by the band on Decca Records. They will head out on a UK tour through October and November. You can find the list of dates here.
