Yann Tiersen has shared new track ‘Tempelhof’, the first powerfully emotive track taken from his newly announced 10th album ALL, out February 15.
Mixed and co-produced by Gareth Jones and recorded in a converted discotheque on the island of Ushant in the Celtic sea, the album follows 2016’s EUSA, a meditation on environment and man’s connection to nature.
Tiersen draws inspiration from the island he has made home for the past ten years, creating a world class recording studio, venue and community centre called The Eskal, and incorporating recordings from inside and outside the island between Brittany and Cornwall.
‘Tempelhof’ is a bewitching precursor to the album, which continues the environmental theme, joining field recordings from the Tempelhof airport (on the new single) with the ambient sounds of California’s redwood forests – “places that are resonant and far away from civilisation — where I can work, letting the wilderness find its into my music,” as Tiersen puts it.
The French composer will tour the album across Europe next year, including Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on February 19 and 20.
