John Grant has shared the title track for his newly announced fourth solo album Love Is Magic, plus a new London date

John Grant has announced the details of his new LP Love Is Magic, his fourth as a solo musician, and shared the lyric video for its title track which you can see below.

Love Is Magic is out on October 12 via Bella Union. Also announced today is a new live show at Brixton Academy on 30 October, having already sold out Manchester's Albert Hall. Grant's full run of European dates are listed in full at the end of this article.

Says Grant of the new release: "Each record I make is more of an amalgamation of who I am. The more I do this, the more I trust myself, and the closer I get to making what I imagine in my head."

The album was produced by Grant along with Benge and Paul Alexander of Midlake. Grant first worked with the latter on his first solo record Queen Of Denmark in 2010.

“Paul trained in music theory at UNT in Denton, Texas with an emphasis in Jazz and I knew he would come up with beautiful harmonies, so I unleashed him on the backing vocals,” Grant enthuses. “He comes up with interesting angles rather than the obvious and also plays some of the best bass lines I’ve ever heard.”

It is Grant's first solo record since 2015's Grey Tickles, Black Pressure. Since then, he's performed live alongside the likes of Kylie Minogue and Goldfrapp, recorded with Elbow, Hercules And Love Affair and Robbie Williams, and was part of the 'Songs Of Scott Walker' Proms performance last year.

Also at the Royal Albert Hall, Grant interviewed Cocteau Twins singer Elisabeth Fraser in a rare live appearance for the latter. Read tQ's detailed report from that here.
