Later this year, Dead Oceans will release a new collaborative album between pianist Tom Rogerson and Brian Eno.
Above, you can listen to the opening track from Finding Shore, entitled ‘Idea of Order at Kyson Point’, a minimalist cut which channels the more ambient of Eno’s work with Rogerson’s piano entering proceedings just past the one-minute mark.
The album’s roots lie in a chance meeting between Rogerson and Eno, during which they didn’t speak about music, but instead bonded over their upbringing in the Suffolk town of Woodbridge, an area surrounded by heathland, military testing sites and close to the site of the ancient Sutton Hoo ship burial.
"I do totally hear it, I’ll listen and think ‘oh, that sounds like the bells at Woodbridge, that’s the birds, the wind rustling in the reeds’," Rogerson says of the influence of the town on the record. "I think it permeates my music, and Brian’s ambient records. That ‘is it organic or is it electronic thing?’ is so interesting."
