Early Joe Hisaishi Soundtrack To Be Reissued

An early work of the famed Studio Ghibli film soundtrack producer Joe Hisaishi will be reissued next year

Joe Hisaishi’s soundtracks for animated Studio Ghibli films such as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are widely celebrated, his scores always providing perfect accompaniment to the Japanese studio’s works.

Hisaishi produced a number of works however before he became involved with Studio Ghibli and the recently launched Lag Records will soon reissue a 1984 LP by the composer. Kisshō Tennyo was produced as a musical accompaniment to an ’80s manga of the same name, and offers an insight into Hisaishi’s lesser known works as a producer of electronic music.

The manga itself follows a mysterious lead female character who has the powers of an ancient deity, and Hisaishi’s soundtrack takes in lighter and darker moments accordingly.

The reissue, which is set for release on February 26, sees Hisaishi’s works remastered, while the record will feature new artwork produced by Luna Monogatari. You can pre-order the record here and check out preview clips above.
