Locust Abortion Technician, the third studio album by Butthole Surfers, originally released in 1987, will be reissued this November in a remastered 10" vinyl edition to mark its 30th anniversary.
The release marks the band’s first since 2007’s compilation Pioughd/Widowmaker, and comes ahead of new music in 2018 – the first from the band in 15 years. Its release also marks the first of a series of upcoming remastered reissues from the band which will follow throughout next year.
"Sometime in 1986 the band decided that we were tired of living on the road, that it was time to find a home," says guitarist Paul Leary. "We were in San Francisco at the time, and chose our new home town by throwing a dart at a map. The dart landed on Athens, Georgia, so off to Georgia we went. We soon realised that we couldn’t actually afford to rent a house in Athens, but were able to find a two-bedroom rental house in tiny nearby Winterville. We used our meagre savings to purchase an old Ampex eight-track tape machine, two microphones, and recorded what would become our third full-length LP, Locust Abortion Technician."
The band will perform their only show of 2017 at the upcoming Growler’s Six Festival on the LA Waterfront at the Port of Los Angeles on October 29. It’s expected that they will play more live shows next year. The reissue is set for release on November 17. You can read our recent feature on the album here.
