Bandcamp Trans Rights Fundraiser On Friday
Veronica Irwin , August 1st, 2017 12:55

In response to recent transphobic statements from Donald Trump’s administration, Bandcamp will be donating all proceeds to the Transgender Law Center this Friday

Earlier this year, Bandcamp donated their full share of proceeds from sales on the platform to the American Civil Liberties Union, supporting the organisation's work in fighting back against Donald Trump's ban on travel to the US from a number of predominantly Muslim countries.

This Friday (August 4), they will do the same, this time donating all proceeds on the music streaming and purchasing site to the Transgender Law Centre, an organisation focused on changes to “law, policy, and attitudes” in the defence of transgender people. The organisation’s work fighting for healthcare for trans veterans, in defense of trans immigrants' rights, and against abuse in prisons and detention centres is particularly of note.

In their statement, Bandcamp says "we support our LGBT+ users and staff, and we stand against any person or group that would see them further marginalised." Additionally, they condemn the US administration’s actions by calling Trump's recent declaration against transgender troops "part of the administration’s cynical, discriminatory agenda". The site has also published a list of albums by trans and gender-non-conforming artists that they encourage supporting.
