On ever-impressive, consistent form, Rocket Recordings’ next release comes from London-based outfit Housewives who make their debut on the label with FF061116.
The record, split into seven excerpts, arrives off the back of earlier album releases on Faux Discx and Hands In The Dark in 2013 and 2015 respectively, with the band drawing on post-punk, free jazz, electronics and noise to drum up a sound that seems at once chaotic and orderly.
On the video for album track ‘Excerpt 2’, which you can watch exclusively above, the band look to their roots, with the hard-hitting percussion of the track set against the nature of Epping Forest.
"Growing up together on the isosceles lay lines between Gloucester, Cheltenham and historic Bishops Cleave I wanted to put something together that represented the roots of Housewives," says the video’s director, Matthew Silcox. "The opening is where you get the audience or lose them forever, so we wanted to get it right.
"There’s the sequence of events – the long shot of Epping forest followed by the sky and so on. The video caters for viewers who maybe have a few tabs open and might miss the start, or those who have it pop up on autoplay. The idea with all the fonts was to avoid giving a single impression of the band, something for everyone."
The band will play live in the UK across August taking in dates at Bristol’s Surrey Vaults (August 18), Cafe Oto in London (August 19, album launch), Manchester’s Soup Kitchen (August 26) and Sheffield’s Audacious Art Experiment (August 27).
