Olympic Mess, Helm’s 2015 album released on PAN, was a highlight of that year with its explorations of noise and ambient music sounding not out of place on Bill Kouligas’ excellent label. With releases having followed on his own Alter label, as well as Opal Tapes, Helm’s latest record arrives via Will Bankhead’s unbeatable The Trilogy Tapes imprint.
Entitled World In Action, the record is made up of four tracks, and the title track is streaming exclusively just below ahead of its digital release this Friday. The track is a murky, sludgy beast, its colossal, darkly industrial beats calling to mind the work of Mick Harris’ Scorn project, all wrapped up in the contorted electronics found in much of the producer’s past output.
The record was recorded across East London, South-East Kent and Snaresbrook Crown Court during what is described as "the UK media’s attempt at divining integrity from the orchestrated turbulence of Brexit", with the record setting out to "juggle the documentation of this particular moment with the desire to discern motivation from despair". World In Action takes in field recordings, woodwind freakouts and percussion from Valentina Magaletti amongst other elements.
The record can be purchased digitally and directly from the producer from Friday here while you can get your hands on the vinyl soon from Honest Jon’s. Earlier this week, we also premiered a track from Chain Of Flowers who are due to release a record soon on Younger’s Alter label. Check that out here.
