Amsterdam’s Rush Hour label and store has announced a pair of reissues of Japanese classics, taking in music from Ryuichi Sakamoto and Pecker.
The former will feature on a 7" release, containing ‘Thousand Knives Of’ and ‘Plastic Bamboo’, both of which originally featured on Sakamoto’s 1978 album Thousand Knives Of. Pecker contributed drums to ‘Plastic Bamboo’, and will be the subject of the other reissue from the label. Pecker Power is a highly sought-after dub and reggae record originally released in 1980, and put together by Masahito Hashida. It features a wide collection of contributing musicians including figures from Jamaica such as Sly & Robbie and Augustus Pablo.
Both were originally reissued by Japanese label Better Days and will be made available from Record Store Day, April 22. They are the latest volumes in Rush Hour’s ongoing reissue series dedicated to Japanese music, which has so far given us excellent reissues of ’70s and ’80s disco from Eri Ohno and Minako Yoshida. You can listen to clips of the Sakamoto record above and the Pecker record below.
