With one previous album to its name in the form of 2013’s Livity Sound compilation, the Bristol-based label run by Peverelist has announced an upcoming full-length from Kowton following on from a number of previous releases via the label. Above, you can check out the first taste of the album in the form of ‘Shots Fired’, a stark, club-focused cut recalling the sprawling synth tones of past tracks such as last year’s Livity-released ‘On Repeat’.
The album, entitled Utility, marks the debut solo album release from the producer and continues in the vein of the distinctive bass-driven techno sound set out by previous releases via the Livity Sound label.
“The name Utility came from a series of conversations I had in the build up to finishing the record,” says the producer. “What feels most prescient to me right now is writing concise music with purpose and direction – viceral music that’s uncluttered both sonically and theoretically. I wanted to create an LP that works on the floor but is nuanced enough to justify repeat listens and self-aware enough to sit properly as a complete album.” Utility is out on April 15 in vinyl and digital formats.
