We recently brought you news of Morrissey’s debut novel and it has been released as a Penguin Classic no less. With the book now out however, early reviews have been less than favourable.

According to Morrissey himself, “The theme is demonology … the left-handed path of black magic. It is about a sports relay team in 1970s America who accidentally kill a wretch who, in esoteric language, might be known as a Fetch … a discarnate entity in physical form.” In short, the Guardian’s Michael Hann, in an early review, has said “all you need to know is not to buy it”. Below you can read an extract from the book which could go some way to swaying you one way or the other as Morrissey gives us an insight into how he writes sex scenes. Enjoy, or not.

“Eliza and Ezra rolled together into the one giggling snowball of full-figured copulation, screaming and shouting as they playfully bit and pulled at each other in a dangerous and clamorous rollercoaster coil of sexually violent rotation with Eliza’s breasts barrel-rolled across Ezra’s howling mouth and the pained frenzy of his bulbous salutation extenuating his excitement as it smacked its way into every muscle of Eliza’s body except for the otherwise central zone.”

Morrissey claims he played his last UK shows earlier this week in London, saying that his lack of label backing made it unfeasible for him to continue touring in the UK. Read more about that here.
