Towering figure in electronic music passes away

Dieter Moebius, a pioneer of electronic music as a co-founding member of Cluster and Harmonia, has passed away. The news of Moebius’ passing was shared via the Facebook page of collaborator and fellow Harmonia member Michael Rother, with a post reading “our friend, neighbour and collaborator passed away this morning, July 20th 2015. He will be missed dearly by all of us.” Moebius is survived by his wife, Irene.

Having originally formed Kluster alongside Conrad Schnitzler and Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Moebius went on to collaborate with Brian Eno and release a number of seminal albums as Cluster alongside Roedelius, after Schnitzler left the project. Moebius was also part of Harmonia alongside Schnitzler and Michael Rother of Neu!, again releasing a number of definitive records in the German electronic music scene and more widely. Moebius also released a solo album, Nidemonex last year as part of his extensive solo body of work.
