Black metal band Terzij de Horde have released a limited book with never before translated poems by the Dutch poet and writer Hendrik Marsman to mark the 75th anniversary of his death trying to escape to England during World War II. The book also comes accompanied with a track from the group, entitled ‘Wacht – Lex Barbarorum’, which you can listen to above.
The band’s bassist, Johan van Hattum, said: Hendrik Marsman wrote gut-wrenching, harrowing poetry, a dark vitalism at the basis, vibrant and volatile. Because most of his poetry was never translated from his native language Dutch, most people have never had the chance to read his work; we want to change that." The book, A Crooked Flower in Cosmos’ Flailing Mouth, features 14 of Marsman’s poems, carefully translated to maintain the original meaning and flow of his writing. The book is limited to an edition of 50 and comes with a download code of ‘Wacht – Lex Barbarorum’. You can buy it here.
