Next week, Mamuthones, the solo project of Alessio Gastaldello, formerly of Italian psych merchants Jennifer Gentle, is releasing a split with Lancastrian heavyweights Evil Blizzard on Rocket Recordings. It’s the fourth volume of the label’s Collisions run, and off it comes ‘I’ve Gotta Be’, an itchy, mesmeric NY disco track that nods to My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. We’re told the video takes its lead from Holy Ghost People, Peter Adair’s 1967 documentary on a Pentecostal community in West Virginia who engaged in snake handling and speaking in tongues rituals, with the promo shifting from the vaguely unsettling judder of archive footage to a man undergoing his own spiritual experience, wigging out in front of a projection. Take a look above and keep your eyes peeled for a copy of the record, which has sadly already sold out at Rocket’s Bandcamp.
