Mindy Smith - One Moment More
Again, a fantastic and gorgeous singer who didn't catch on as much as she should have. Dolly Parton championed her for the longest time, and kind of mentored her. She's got the most beautiful voice. The song 'One Moment More' I related to because it's about her mum dying of cancer, and my mum died of cancer. She was actually adopted, so it was kind of doubly sad, and at the time I felt a kinship with her. I just found out about her from reading magazines and reviews. This was probably before the internet, or before the internet was such a big thing. I went to see her play, and all the stuff she was talking about, her sensitivity and vulnerability, I really felt. I liked a bit of alt country, when it had its moment - Gillian Welch, Ryan Adams, Grant Lee Buffalo - but this record didn't do as well as those artists. When I love a record and the rest of the world doesn't seem to be paying attention, I don't want to keep it to myself - I feel compelled to share it.
