Dutch collective relocate Sinkane's New Name to Egypt

Before Sinkane wraps up his UK tour next week – he’s playing Oslo in London on December 1, Leeds’ Belgrave Music Hall, 2, and Opium Rooms in Dublin, 3 – Cairo Liberation Front have retooled ‘New Name’ from Mean Love. The Dutch pairing of Yannick Verhoeven and Joep Schmitz, who recently brought their live show, an MC’ed set of outright bangers from the Egyptian Electro-Chaabi scene, to London for the first time, give the original a pretty much wholesale rebirth. The Chaabi influence is there in the galloping rhythm, and particularly fine are the strobing basslines and hard-edged percussive clashes they thread through, mesmeric vocals and brass volleys echoing somewhere in the background, all set around Sinkane’s voice, frayed slightly with distortion.
