Elliott Smith - XO
I kind of got into him in a weird way, through Good Will Hunting, and then backtracked to his earlier records. I met him before he died. He came up to me in a club all beaten up, probably in 2002/2003, and I don't know what had happened to him. It was a really weird conversation, because I didn't know it was Elliott, because people come up to me all the time, and I don't ever really want to say: "I don't know who you are." So I had this nice conversation, blagged it, and he walked away. And afterwards a girl said, "Elliott loves you". And I said, "Elliott who?" And she said, "Elliott Smith", and I thought, "Ah no!" He looked as if he was a gang member who'd been beaten up.
