First taste of second album from percussion-heavy Bahrainian ex-pats

London-Bahraini experimentalists Flamingods have announced the release of their second album, Hyperborea, out on Islet man Mark Daman Thomas's Shape Records on July 21. Have a listen to the record's title track above.

The album was made with none of the band members co-present in the studio, due to visa restrictions meaning founder Kamal Rasool had to leave the UK, and deals with "themes of identity, belonging and alienation", with the album's title referring to the Greek mythical land of eternal sunshine beyond the north wind, a sense of imagined utopian geography which suits their themes well. Speaking to Loud And Quiet, Rasool described his songwriting process as, "just taking all the places I've been to around the world and trying to put those ideas into song", adding, "obviously, we do have psychedelic influences as well".

The band will be playing a run of shows this summer, starting at 60 Million Postcards in Bournemouth on July 11; head here for the full listings.
