Lovers On The Run now streaming at tQ

Echo & The Bunnymen are back with new material, and it's sounding - on the evidence of the track streaming above - rather good. 'Lovers On The Run' is a bit of classic Bunnymen pop, reminiscent of 'The Killing Moon', and features original guitarist Will Sergeant and production work by Youth. The track is released on May 26th, and will feature on the next Bunnymen studio album, Meteorites, out on the same day. Says Ian McCulloch of the new material, "For me, this is a whole new approach. It’s more edgy than anything I've ever done. I’m dealing with something on this record I didn’t want to deal with for a long time.”

Echo & The Bunnymen can be found touring in May on the following dates:

MAY

5th - Leamington Spa, Assembly Rooms
6th - Paris, Alhambra
7th - Antwerp, Trix
8th - Utrecht, Tivoli
10th - Oxford, Academy
11th - Wolverhampton, Wulfrun Hall
13th - Newcastle, Tyne Theatre
14th - Manchester, Ritz
16th - Edinburgh, Queens Hall

In no way is this anywhere near the quality (or "edginess") of prime Bunnymen. Having just had an ace time seeing Godflesh last week and hvaing tix to Loop this week, I can't say that some 80s/90s bands shouldn't "tour the hits" if they can still perform well, but as far as all of them trying new material, there should be some kind of law against it. This is just a poorly arranged Coldplay tune. Stop it, fellas.

Ancient ex-post-punks trying in vain to make music as vital as they did 30 years ago gives me no joy, this is absolutely true. Enjoy yr Slideling CD, bro.

As a first time around Bunnymen listener, I gave up a long time ago hoping they'd do something worthwhile. First 5 albums are their peak and everything else since has been poor in comparison - should have kept the 'name' retired when Electrafixion was spawned. Retire now.

This song is begging for a Richard Norris/Time And Space Machine Remix. Really wonderful!

Meteorites is fizzling out track by track. Is not living up to the hype as suggested.
