Jo Bartlett and Danny Hagan, the founders of Green Man festival, have announced the inaugural edition of a brand new one-day festival entitled Third Rail. It will take place on July 5th from noon until 10pm at Thames Prom in Reading, and features an impressively varied line-up including several Quietus favourites.
The main stage features Grumbling Fur, the duo of Daniel O’Sullivan and Alexander Tucker whose album Glynnaestra was the Quietus’ number one album of 2013, alongside Teeth Of The Sea, exploratory jazz from Seb Rochford’s Polar Bear, Dublin techno/electronics duo Lakker (doing a live audiovisual set), Boxed In, Black Channels, Crushed Beaks and The Art Club.
The Fringe On Top Stage will play host to Firefly Burning, Kodiak Island, Sun Skeletons Jnr and Fauntleroy, as well as a talk, hosted by Neil Taylor, on ‘C86 & The Birth Of Indie’. Also DJing on the day will be the Quietus’ Luke Turner and John Doran, Keylen, Tim Rockins and Doubledotdash!?. As well as musical events there will be a cinema tent, with its programme curated by the London Short Film Society, a space called The Youth Club featuring 70s computer games and table tennis, as well as "global food and local ales".
Says Bartlett: “I’m really excited by so much music at the moment, with everything from electronic ambience to free jazz experimentalism. There’ll also be talks, cinema and some great local food and drink. There’ll even be a 70s style Youth Club”.
The organisers have put together a trailer for the festival, which you can watch via the embed below.
Tickets for the festival cost £25 for adults (and £20 earlybirds), £10 for a youth ticket covering 11-16 year olds, and free for under 11s.
