LISTEN: Black Channels – Oracles

First look at video for debut single by haunted new duo

Occupying tQ’s computer screens this week has been this ace video from Black Channels. There’s scant information in circulation about the duo, which is comprised of Simon and Becky and based in London and Brighton, other than their penchant for haunting archival film footage and photographs of eerie antique puppetry, as evidenced nicely on their YouTube channel and Tumblr. The pair tell us: "Tape loops and echo chambers are our friends. Myths and legends, dreams and nightmares inspire and draw out the strange, sometimes psychedelic sounds." Whatever crepuscular source it is they’re drawing from, we hope it’s in plentiful supply – ‘Oracles’, along with its B-side, ‘Depth Of Field’, tap the spirit of Broadcast and HTRK to, in the case of the former, forge a song that oscillates between quietly intense passages freighted with creeping synths and an electronic pulse to an aerial, rolling chorus. Watch the video above.

They’re so far yet to play a live show, though stay tuned to their website for updates on that, and get hold of the single here.
