Following up on one of our favourite albums of 2013, her excellent debut mixtape Cut 4 Me, Kelela has just posted a new track, ‘The High’, to mark the announcement of live dates, her first headline shows, in Austin, New York and Los Angeles, her home town. While her voice was never not the main focus of that release, here it’s pushed even further, with producer Gifted & Blessed’s minimal, pulsating beat simply ticking over as her vocals rise up from a solo line to massed-up harmonies, which, occasionally fringed with Auto-Tune, become the woozy and mesmerically malleable centrepiece of the cut – have a listen above, and head to her Facebook for live details.
