Montreal-based trio Braids will be releasing their second LP Flourish // Perish on Full Time Hobby on August 19. Following that, they’ll be putting out the album’s first single, ‘Fruend’, and we’ve got an exclusive first spin – have a listen above.
Continuing to mine from their avantgarde mindset, the track’s fidgety drums and tightly-wound staccato synths lend it an almost math-rock feel, and, in spite of stating a decided move in an electronics-only direction for their follow-up to 2011’s Native Speaker, it sounds surprisingly organic, pushing Raphaelle Standell-Preston’s cascading vocal self-harmonies to the front of the mix.
