It sometimes feels as if a few lifetimes have passed since the summer of 2008, when we launched the Quietus, got into a fight with Metallica’s management, and became an independent online publication with nary a shilling to rub together. Since then, a million cups of Yorkshire Tea have passed down our gullets as more and more of you, our wonderful readers, have visited the site each month. We thought that, with 2013 being our fifth anniversary, we ought to do a few things to celebrate. So we released our first record courtesy of the brilliant East India Youth, have an exciting new way of reading our content coming very soon – and are now ready to announce a party that takes place around the same time of year that we started working by ourselves. We never had a party at the time, as both John and Luke had been to enough website launches that were like a scoffed feast on the slanting deck of the Titanic to know better.
We’re therefore taking over the dark arches and magnificent PA of Corsica Studios on Friday September 6th 2013, for a rather special night of music. Now, we’re not actually going to tell you who’s playing just yet. Suffice to say that the three live acts who’ll be playing on the night are three of the finest new British groups who’ve kept us sustained over the past five years. We’re reasonably confident you’ll be able to work it out. You can buy tickets here. Hope to see you in September.

A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest
And a queer threw up at the sight of that…"
