D'Angelo - Voodoo
D’Angelo’s first record, Brown Sugar, was straight neo-soul and this was a big departure. It was done in Electric Ladyland studios with an all-star cast. I really loved the fact that he had people like J Dilla and ?uestlove involved. Pino Palladino played bass on it too and his daughter, Fabiana Palladino, was on my first record, she sings on ‘Survive It’. I didn’t know that he was her dad for a long time.

Each time I listen to it I’m hearing something new in it. And lyrically it’s amazing as well, especially the whole voodoo element, the dark arts vibe going on, that intrigued me a lot. A great listen, a great record.
