Audio Antihero Release Rape Crisis Comp

Darren Hayman and Jeffrey Lewis among artists feature on release in aid of charity

Excellent London label Audio Antihero: Specialists In Commercial Suicide have put out a 31-track compilation in aid of Rape Crisis England & Wales and Rape Crisis Scotland.

Regal Vs Steamboat (artwork above) features previously unreleased cuts from Darren Hayman, Jeffrey Lewis, Bored Nothing, David Cronenberg’s Wife as well as AA roster artists like Benjamin Shaw and Jack Hayter among others, and can be downloaded for a minimum donation fo £3.99 either below or over at the label’s Bandcamp.

Says Audio Antihero’s Jamie Halliday in a blogpost about the compilation: "This is totally important and you know it. I’m too bumbling and inarticulate to be the voice of anything… but THIS IS IMPORTANT. Get involved. Please, buy the compilation and share it with friends and foes on your blog/Tumblr/Twitter/Facebook, etc. It’s all very much appreciated. 400,000 women are sexually abused every year in the UK… we can’t stop that but we can help to make sure that these survivors get the support they deserve. If you don’t know anyone who has ever suffered in this way, then I am absolutely delighted – but I do fear that you’re in the minority. As long as we have hate, sexism, misogyny and inequality in this world – then we will have rape and vice versa. If anyone ever tells you otherwise, tell them they’re wrong.

"Despite the seriousness of the charity, as always (this is our third annual charity compilation?!) this comp is designed to be fun. Some songs may sound a little out of place given the context of the compilation but that’s fine, the release itself isn’t meant to be the message… it’s just a (hopefully) entertaining means of providing a wonderful charity with some well deserved finances. Eagle-eyed trivia fans may have noticed a pro wrestling theme in the compilation (and indeed, my entire life) – well done! What’s more is that every artist has been assigned a somewhat tenuous "wrestling equivalent" which you can find by clicking on each individual track. For example… who on earth could Benjamin Shaw be?! I had fun making them up on the train anyway."
