Quietus DJs making an appearance at next week's gig from Suicide man

Next Tuesday, 9th April, Corsica Studios will be playing host Martin Rev, who rose to prominence as one half of NYC proto-punk/synth duo Suicide.

Rev has been an instrumental and hugely influential figure in the development of underground electronic music and post-punk, and his solo work since has plotted points all across the map; we're promised "a crazy mix of driving rhythms, blistering synths and some serious NYC keyboard attitude." Also playing will be London's purveyors of righteously intense, menacing and psychedelic rock, Gallon Drunk, and the Quietus' own Luke Turner will be taking you through on DJ duties, with a mixture of seedy rock and gnarled electronics.

I think it's important for everyone to realize Martin Rev made TWO good albums... TWO out of a way too many... They being the first two Suicide records, of course. "Legend" or not, the time for indulging his nonsense is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay passed. Of course, in a nation that EVER considered a turd like Bowie worth attention, maybe ya'll don't have anything better to do. More's the pity.

Amazing set by a true rock legend, thought I might pass away during the extended strobe sequence, guys about 70 years old and still rocking like a demon. Musics not an easy ride, but is an original and inspired slice of americana both wonderfull and frightening. Feel priveledged to have seen him live and in Elephant and Castle to boot. Resect to the Rev and Corsica Studios for yet another evening of sub cultural excellence! I too don't like all his stuff, but then that's often the way with experimental art forms. As a live experience, pretty hard to beat. Wow.

I was there on Tuesday night. I enjoyed Rev's set especially his doo-wap montage. Gallon Drunk were excellent too as were the Sister Ray/Neu-inspired opening band.
