Teeside electronic artist Rejections, aka Reject And Fade boss Michael Hann, today releases his new EP Vertical City on Jehu And Chinaman – have a listen to a track, ‘Body Markings’, from the record below:
Inspired by J.G. Ballard’s High Rise (see the artwork, above), it’s a deeply unhappy piece of industrial grind, with a droning rhythm emerging out of cyclical, dissipating metallic synths and pulsating noise waves. Stabs of distorted sonar-like sound fire across the stereo range like the final distress calls from a submarine teetering on the edge of some gargantuan abyss, before finally disappearing into the black with a steely, echoing scream.
Tune into Newcastle’s basicFm on April 1 for an hour-long broadcast of original material by Rejections, as well as a new release on Opal Tapes later in the year.
