Yes, the year’s in the doldrums. Yes, it’s a dreek late-January day. But also, yes, this year’s Incubate Festival is in the far-flung horizon, a heaving seven-day Hercules of a festival buoying up the year, and to help you keep that in mind, here’s a reminder of 2012’s event, a full-length recording of Damo Suzuki’s Network’s first set at the festival, recorded on Friday 14 September:
Suzuki started DSN ten years after he departed Can, and the group’s ever-changing cast of musicians having been taking in all comers since, currently numbering around 450 members. For last year’s Incubate, they played three shows in three days in three different formations, with the recording above featuring the fretboard-decimating skills of Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite, Barry Burns and John Cummings.
