Paul Allen, of Bristol psychedelic voyagers The Heads, is about to release his debut album as Anthroprophh, a heady trip from driving, krautrock-influenced psych rock to tense ambience, via many lashings of sun-frazzled guitar. Entitled Anthroprophh, it's released via Rocket Recordings next Monday, 28th January.
"Heavy on the the planetary rhythms, laced percussive half man, half machine grooves," reads the text accompanying the album's release, "Anthroprophh glazes his music with a darker spirit of Michael Karoli and CAN secret rhythms." In advance of its release you can get a taster of what it's likely to sound like through the video for 'Precession', a deliciously anxious, shuffly piece that gradually emerges into view before receding again. Watch it via the embed above, and keep an eye out for an upcoming interview with Allen on the Quietus.
Allen is set to play a couple of shows around the album's release, with Bristolian crew The Big Naturals as his backing band. The first takes place next week, on February 1st, at London's Shacklewell Arms, and will find him playing alongside the mighty Gnod. On February 3rd he'll be calling at Bristol's Exchange, again alongside Gnod and Giant Swan.
