One of 2013 records that’s already on repeat in the various Quietus headquarters and homes is the new one from L Pierre, the tropical-ish occasionally active project from Aidan Moffat, who’s probably one of the busiest men in Scottish music. Now, we’re keen to spread the joy and have been given the brilliant The Island Come True to stream on the site. Says Moffat of the lo-fi production, “Everything sounds so clean and clinical and perfect today, but I love hearing something that sounds worn and suggests the music has a history. It’s gorgeous and sad at once, as though it’s lived a life and survived to tell the tale.” You can hear it via the Soundcloud below. In the Escape Velocity interview (see next Tuesday), Aidan tells us that L Pierre represents the "insomniac, slightly frightened side" of his personality as manifested in music. That sounds about right for a project that had it’s birth as a balm for sleepless nights in a time of too many magic beans. There’s more of that next week, but not for now, get acquainted with the unsettling soundtrack to cold mornings of streetlights fading in an unpleasant dawn mist, below. Pre-order The Island Come True at the Melodic website, here.
