About a year ago, the Quietus was at All Tomorrow’s Parties in New York watching Oneida’s live jam of their Ocropolis studio in a bowling alley. For hour after hour, this most mighty of American groups dragged in collaborators for a musical project of stupendous power and endurance.
Of course, Oneida is a heroic, many-limbed beast, but it’s a fascinating thing to see what their magnificent drummer Kid Millions gets up to on his own and with different collaborators. Which brings us to his new project, Man Forever, who play for the Quietus at London’s Lexington this week (along with other European dates – tickets here). The recent Man Forever LP for Thrill Jockey, Pansophical Cataract is based around two extended drum workouts inspired by Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music… endurance sessions of a different sort, and one which we cannot wait to see transformed live.
As Kid told us here, "I like to think I have a sense of humor and I really don’t give a shit about the seriousness of things. Yes, Man Forever are as serious as a heart attack, but it’s also joyful.
