Walls member Sam Willis’s debut solo release Winterval (artwork above) is out on November 5 via Half Machine Records, and here’s the video for the title track (via Noisey):
The title track suggestions the full-length will be at the end of the dance music spectrum occupied by the likes of Four Tet, Nathan Fake and Caribou, blending hypnotising atmospherics with intricate, shuffling house rhythms. Stretched out, crumbling guitar tones are distinctly audible throughout ‘Winterval’, along with timidly evocative vocal samples, suggesting that Willis has managed to retain some of the elements so key to the success of Walls while pursuing his new solo venture.
The accompanying video is a glitchy, tripped-out affair, featuring an assortment of data-moshed fighter jets swamped in a sea of brightly pixelated colours. The video comes courtesy of Dan Tombs, a director and live VJ who has worked with Walls previously, as well as providing videos for Perc, Gold Panda and London-based club night Dollop.
