'The Second To Last Foxtrot' to take over Dalston's Vortex for four nights next week

Jonny Mugwump's monthly Exotic Pylon events, which for quite some time now have been bringing strange and wild musical treats to Dalston's Vortex jazz club, are set to come to an end next week. But rather than finishing with a single final show, the series is set to end on a high, with a series of four mightily impressive shows under the heading 'The Second To Last Foxtrot'. Running from next Wednesday 21st March until Saturday 24th March, the series of shows gathers together some of underground electronic and experimental music's more interesting current concerns.

Among those set to play are Mordant Music's weird-pop stalwart Vindicatrix, who features in Wednesday night's showcase for the Dekorder label alongside Andrew Pekler, Sculpture and Black To Comm.

Thursday features London's worn-down dubsteppers Old Apparatus (last seen providing a mighty remix for the Honest Jon's Shangaan Shake project), Exotic Pylon Records signings and avant hip-hop collective Infinite Livez, VHS Head and VED.

Friday's show looks set to be a particularly good one: in advance of the release of his new album Third Mouth, Alexander Tucker is set to play alongside Lata, Cindytalk and ex-Vex'd producer of scorched earth ambient Roly Porter.

The closing night, Saturday 24th, verges closer to party music than the rest of the week's fare, though it's still mediated through a harsh, noisy filter. William Bennett's Cut Hands project, which sets jarring polyrhythms and white noise to deeply unsettling visuals, heads up the bill alongside Andy Stott, whose recent music has muffled the crispness of his earlier techno in a thick coating of grit and grime. Also featured are Ship Canal and the exploratory techno/electronica of Dalglish.

Tickets or the entire event are £30, or different prices for the various different events, and available at WeGotTickets.
