Invada To Release Drive OST

Soundtrack to last year's cult hit to be released on vinyl by Geoff Barrow's label

Invada, the Bristol-based label owned by Portishead's Geoff Barrow, are set to release the soundtrack to Drive on vinyl on 21st May.

The original soundtrack was one of the most praised aspects of the film, which featured Ryan Gosling as a stuntman/getaway driver and was released last year to generally rave reviews. Featuring original music by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx, Cliff Martinez, The Chromatics, Desire and Riziero Ortolani, amongst others, the soundtrack's digital release sold impressively well upon the film's release.

“One thing that was unique for me about this project was having songs exert such a strong influence on the score,” said Martinez of Drive's soundtrack.  “That helped to create a unified, one-size-fits-all, style of soundtrack…the 80s electronic pop style made a lot of sense to me. I knew that Nicolas [Refn, director] was in love with that sound and I saw a way to acknowledge it with vintage synth sounds and cover most of the dramatic food groups while referencing that style.”

"I am very excited for Invada Records to release the Drive soundtrack on vinyl," said Barrow of the release. "It is nice to see good music allowed to play a pivotal role in a great film."

2012 is set to be a busy year for Invada, who plan to release albums by Anika, BEAK>, The Fauns, Drokk and The Veees. We spoke to Barrow last month about his plans for the year ahead - you can read the interview here.
