Santigold has a new album scheduled for release this spring. Entitled Master Of My Make Believe, it's the long-in-the-pipeline to her 2008 debut, which found her aligned with the likes of M.I.A and Diplo as an artist mining urban dance musics from across the world (admittedly, though, she's a great deal less irritating than either).

As the first track to emerge from the record (via Pitchfork), 'Big Mouth' doesn't show any great musical shift away from her earlier material. It's rather good regardless, all bubbling low end, tightly syncopated snares and half-rapped, half-spoken vocals. You can also download it in exchange for your email address at her website.

When the debut came out, I remember spending a good deal of time trying to get people to stop dismissing Santigold as an MIA clone because I hated that easy simplification. I thought there was some genuinely unique flavor overall on that album.

And now this, while enjoyable... c'mon, Santi. This is a blow to my case. You are not making this any easier. And even if I was to say it sounds more like Major Lazer (I seriously synced Pon de Floor to her new video), the Diplo-->MIA connection remains.

To quote Cathy: Aack!!!

Diplo and MIA described as irritating?! Please move on to writing about gardens, or rubber gloves...
