After last year's excellent compilations of long-lost European cold wave from Angular and the Minimal Wave label, 2011 has seen some noteworthy releases by new groups appropriating the genre. There was the brilliant Soft Metals LP, for starters, and now Wierd Records' Xeno & Oaklander hit us with their best work yet. Sets & Lights, out on October 17th, sees them toughening up their synths under their distinctive, querelous American meets European Cold War vocals. There is, as the band say, "an air of exoticism and pervasive sensuality in the face of what feels like an impending violent event." You can listen to Sets & Lights via Soundcloud below.
