Darren Hayman gets friendly with pianos from across the ages in new video

Darren Hayman's new album, The Ship's Piano, is coming out in October thorough Fortuna Pop. As the name suggests, it's a record based around voice and ivories, apparently written while recovering from a head injury which rendered him extra sensitive to sound.

In Hayman's words: “All the songs were written on my ship’s piano. ‘Ship’s Piano’ is a colloquial term given to small-scale pianos that were used on boats. Mine was built in France in 1933 and folds away to resemble a sideboard. I wrote a song where I imagine its history. It’s called ‘The Ship’s Piano’.”

The new video, for the title track, takes a 'pianos though the ages' approach.

Hayman is due to play piano sets at The Albany in London on 18th and 19th October, in support of the album's release.
