Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox has announced the release of his third solo album as Atlas Sound. Entitled Parallax, it’s due for release on 4AD in early November.
There’s scant information available about the record so far, but according to what we’ve heard so far Parallax is ‘a fully fleshed musical landscape chock-full of pop chronicles culled from sci-fi fever dreams and mid century rock… Perhaps Cox’s best work to date, juxtaposing his modern, sometimes avant, songwriting sensibilities against a backdrop of ambient loneliness and a quiet feeling of desperation.’
4AD have made a track from the album, the Mercury Rev-ish ‘Terra Incognita’ available for advance streaming here. Like much of Cox’s Atlas Sound material it’s a lot more intimate than his music with Deerhunter, but still peculiarly epic.
Parallax‘s tracklist is as follows:
‘The Shake’
‘Amplifiers’
‘Te Amo’
‘Parallax’
‘Modern Aquatic Nightsongs’
‘Mona Lisa’
‘Praying Man’
‘Doldrums’
‘My Angel Is Broken’
‘Terra Incognita’
‘Flagstaff’
‘Nightworks’
