Orchestral Manoeuvres get XX-d up

OMD are a perplexing bunch these days, seeming to have abandoned the brilliant futurism of their past in favour of a wedding disco dance. Yet see them live and the Architecture & Morality and Dazzle Ships material sounds as vital as ever. And now this cover of The XX's 'VCR' manages to keep the fragile charm of the original while becoming something that is very OMD - vulnerable, yet still pop. Check it out via Soundcloud here:

Love this song. Love OMD at the moment after a recent impulse purchase of their Greatest Hits.

This cover works, doesn't it?

The double thickness irony of an 80's synthband covering a song called VCR adds to the 'magic'.

it works - just - may just be that andy's voice is just not quite right - that's 3 'justs' in once sentence, sorry. But i speaks as a big fan and as a witness of a 7 year old daughter dancing madly to Sister Marie Says - OMD shall bridge the generations

I much prefer the OMD version to the original one by 'The XX'.
The original version seemed to lack something in my opinion.

Very nice! It seemed that Andy is playing the base guitar!
Simple but good synth sounds - as in former times!

Yes, this is actually quite a brilliant cover - Actually, sounds like it could have been recorded in the 80s.
