As you may be aware, next weekend on Saturday, July 31st, the Quietus will be hosting the Village Mentality stage at the Field Day Festival in London’s Victoria Park. Yesterday, we announced that Leeds group RUNNERS had won our competition to play on the Village Mentality stage with the likes of Gruff Rhys and Tony Da Gattora, The Silver Apples, Mouse On Mars, Esben & The Witch and so forth. Hail to them.
One of the things that we’ve always rather enjoyed at Field Day have been the extra entertainments – the coconut shy, the hay bails liberally strewn about, the sight of a bunch of east London ponces coming unstuck while trying to run in a sack. tQ’s Luke has always especially enjoyed the opportunity to unleash a few rounds on the rifle stall, though he stresses this has never been an attempt to assassinate some of our lesser-loved artists. Check the Field Day website for more details, but as well as the shooting we’re promised a milk the plywood cow game, hardy perennial Splat The Rat, ping pong, recession-handy make & mend, and bowling for bacon.
There’ll also be a mini-Olympiad far more exciting than the one happening at the other end of Victoria Park in 2012, this will feature scone throwing, blindfold tea drinking race, and a tug of war – more news on which tomorrow.
Anyway, we’ve got a pair of Field Day tickets to give away to one of you lucky folks. All you need to do to enter is email comps@thequietus.com with Field Day in the subject and answer the following question:
