Michael Gira has ended months of speculation among the dour of heart and confirmed that his seminal noise/post punk/malevolent gothic troupe are back together, though without core member Jarboe.

According to the band's mySpace, Swans will release a CD of acoustic demos of new material and live Michael Gira DVD in a limited run of 1000 hand-made copies "in order to raise money for the swans recordings/offset the huge costs involved".

You can hear a new track called 'Jim' over at over at the Swans mySpace. Looking forward to the addition of infernal machines, it must be said.

While Jarboe may be a "core" member of mid-to-late period Swans, she wasn't a "founder" member. She didn't appear until the release of the Time Is Money (Bastard) EP.

What a great band. I saw them in London in 1992 and they were fantastic. Their albums "Children Of God","The Burning World", and "White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity" are all worth seeking out.

"Failure" is easily one of the most heartbreaking tracks released in the last twenty years. Welcome back Michael Gira and Co, your sorrowful insights and intense slabs of sound have been missed....

My wife and I saw them in Boston during mid nineties, we wore the brightest holiday clothes we could find as we knew a lot of sad old goths dressed in black would be there. During the song 'The Sound' I had an out-of-body experience that was quite amazing. In my opinion 'The Fall' are the greatest band ever, but the 'Swans' have always been the close second. Welcome back, get Mark E. Smith on the next Swans album, or what about James Johnson of 'Gallon Drunk.'
